We live in a time where we have a world of information and communications in the palm of our hands. Through social media we share photos instantly, allowing us to express tastes, moments, stories, among others. Smartphones have become the best camera, as it is the one we always have with us, giving us freedom and spontaneity when taking photos. The cameras of the smartphones have reached an impressive quality, however, if we want to get some really good and quality photos we have to do more than just focus and shoot. Here I share ten simple tips that will help you improve your photos taken with your cell phone.

Use the grid on the camera to balance the photo. One of the easiest ways to improve photos taken from your smartphone is to turn on the camera’s grid lines. This will allow you to centralize the object and align the photo in a simple way.

Concentrate on a specific object. Many of the best photos only focus on one object. When you take a picture of something specific take your time to find the best angle. Many photographers recommend that the object does not occupy the whole frame and that a part of the photo is of negative space for it to stand out. Always remember to touch the screen to focus on the object.

Take advantage of the surroundings. If you are in a beautiful place like an old building, a nice restaurant, a forest or a beach, you can not miss the opportunity to take a photo.

Find different perspectives. Taking photos from a single, unexpected angle can make a really memorable photo. Try taking photos upside down or straight up taking the sky as negative space, for example.

Look for patterns and symmetries. Photos that have a certain symmetry can be incredibly attractive. In photography, symmetry usually means creating an image that can be divided into two equal parts, mirroring one part of the other.

Avoid using the zoom. When taking a photo from distance is better not to zoom in or zoom out, because it will remove definition and quality from the photo. Choose best to approach the object or take the photo from where you are and then cut it. In this way you will not compromise the quality of the photo and also you will have the opportunity to play with it and optimize it.

Capture small details. Close-up photos that capture small details create images with great visual appeal. Pay attention to the textures and patterns.

Use natural light. By using natural light correctly you can turn a simple photo into an incredible one. Instead of using the flash, take advantage of natural light. This will give you the opportunity to play in shadows. Also, this will prevent photos from being overexposed.

Master the art of a selfie. Instead of taking the photo up front, experiment with several angles until you find the one for you. Remember that the angle should be a little higher than the level of your eyes. Consider your surroundings or the background of your photograph. Look for what is behind you to complement your hairstyle, makeup or what you want to highlight. Pay attention to the lighting and opt for natural light. Be creative at the time of taking the photo, since the complements have much to do, for example, avoid taking the photos where the background is your messy bed or the shower. If the selfie is full body avoid covering your face with your smartphone. Have confidence and have fun when taking your selfie so that it looks natural and not feigned.

Do not be afraid to edit. Composing and taking a photo is just the first step in making an image visually appealing. Editing your photo is the next step. Remember not to over edit or use filters, seek to improve the appearance of the picture, such as brightness, exposure and contrast, so it looks natural. Editing a photo, for example, can make the food look even more delicious. There are many applications that you can use when editing your photos. One of my favorites is Snapseed.

I know these tips will be very helpful. Remember to be creative, have fun and practice them on 3, 2, 1 … Cheese!
